Ausdeck Insulated Wall Panels: Turn Your Patio into a Year-Round Outdoor Room

An insulated patio roof keeps the sun and rain off, but on a windy winter evening or a scorching westerly afternoon, the open sides can still let the weather in. That's where insulated wall panels come in. Made by Ausdeck, the Australian manufacturer behind our insulated roofing, and designed to work with it, they let you close in one, two or three sides of your patio, or enclose it completely, to create a comfortable outdoor room you can use all year.

Please note: the insulated wall panels are stocked at Ausdeck's Queensland branch in Brisbane, so they're currently only available for Queensland orders. If you're outside QLD, get in touch and we'll let you know if that changes.

What is an insulated wall panel?

An insulated wall panel is a "sandwich" panel: two pre-finished steel skins bonded to a solid insulating foam core. The result is a wall that's strong, lightweight, insulated and finished on both sides in one product. There's no separate framing, insulation batts, lining or painting needed.

Panels lock together along their edges for a tight, neat joint

Each panel interlocks with the next along its long edge, so a run of panels goes up quickly and joins neatly.

Sizes and finish

  • Width: 1.2m per panel.
  • Thickness: 50mm, 75mm or 100mm.
  • Lengths (height): 2.4m, 2.7m, 3.0m or 3.6m.
  • Colour: Surfmist, with a smooth finish on both sides, so the inside of your patio room looks as clean as the outside.

Surfmist is also one of the most popular colours in our insulated roofing range, so your walls and roof can sit together as one matching, seamless structure.

To finish the job, matching aluminium extrusion channels hold the panels top and bottom. They're made to suit 50mm, 75mm and 100mm panels and come in 6.5m lengths, and there's a corner mould for neat external corners.

Why pair insulated walls with an insulated roof?

  • Comfort all year: the insulated core slows heat moving through the walls, keeping the space cooler in summer and more sheltered in winter.
  • Wind and weather protection: closing in the windward side can make a big difference to how often you actually use your patio.
  • Quieter space: the solid core helps dampen outside noise, which is ideal for patios near busy roads or neighbours.
  • Privacy: a solid wall on the boundary side gives you a private outdoor room.
  • Fast to install: large 1.2m-wide panels cover a lot of wall quickly, with no framing, batts or lining.
  • One consistent look: walls and roof in matching finishes look like they were always meant to be together, because they were.

Important: walls change how your roof is engineered

This is the part most people don't know. Adding walls to a patio changes the wind loads on its roof. An open patio lets the wind flow through. Once you close in sides, the wind pushes and pulls on the structure differently, and the roof has to be designed for that.

Ausdeck's engineering for its insulated roofing covers each situation separately: a wall to one side, walls to two sides, walls to three sides, and fully enclosed. The allowable roof spans change with each. For example, in an N2 wind area, a 100mm insulated roof panel that can span 7.0m with a wall on one side is reduced to 5.4m with walls on three sides.

That's why it's important to tell us how many sides you plan to enclose when you order your patio, even if you're adding the walls later. We'll make sure the roof panels, beams and posts are right for the finished structure. In cyclonic areas, fully enclosed structures carry even higher wind loads, so the engineering is especially important.

Enclosing a patio can also change what your council requires. Check our council approval guide before you build.

Ideas for insulated wall panels

  • Close in one windy side of an attached patio for shelter without losing the open feel.
  • Create a sunroom or outdoor living room by enclosing three sides of an insulated patio.
  • Build a privacy wall along a boundary or between neighbouring patios.
  • Enclose a carport side for extra protection for your car, boat or caravan.
  • Add a storage or workshop area under an insulated roof.

Planning your insulated patio and walls

  1. Choose your insulated patio style: flyover, fascia attached, wall attached or freestanding.
  2. Decide which sides you'll enclose, and tell us when you order so the roof is engineered to suit.
  3. Measure the height and length of each wall to work out how many 1.2m-wide panels, and what length, you'll need.
  4. Add extrusion channels for the top and bottom of each wall, plus corner moulds.
